Last Year :(

As a lot (all) of you fifth graders know, this is our last year at 116. Which is REALLY sad. Most of us are attached to 116! And I, truly never want to leave. That, is I think why they do spotlight, Singing Group(chourus) and much more.

We need to decide how we want to license our work: Do we want to let people use our work if they give us credit for it? Do we want to let them change it? Let them sell it?

Here’s a page that explains the kinds of Creative Commons (copyleft) licenses we can use, plus there’s also copyright, if we don’t want to let people use our work at all.

3:30

I think that the school day should end at 3:30, and both my parents agree with me. This is why:

(1)  Maybe possibly we could sleep later...

(2)  It would be easier for parents to pick up their kids, because a lot of parents have to leave work early to pick up their kids from school...

(3)  It would also give us an opportunity to have more time for recess and lunch, which we all know we want so very, very badly...

I hope you agree with me and we can show this to Ms. Hsu so she can think about it. Please post your comments and say what you think about it. Please!

Longer Recess?

Hi guys!! I know that if you are in 4th or 5th grade that you tell you student council representitives, " RECESS IS TOOOO SHORT!" Well, sorry friends! We can't. 1 period is 50 minutes and the other classes need to go too!!!

There are so many different holidays that people celebrate! Please post a comment and say what holidays you celebrate and how you celebrate them. It would be great to know!

Free Rice!

There is another really super website called Freerice.com. It asks you vocabulary questions then gives you choices for what that word means. Every word you get right give 20 grains of rice to a hungry child through the United Nations Program. Also, if you click on "change subject" up in the top right corner, you can do math problems, Spanish words, and even identify paintings! It's really fun, and you can help a kid in need!

Flickr!

There is an awesome website called Flickr! On it, you can type in whatever you want and it will find pictures of those letters to spell the words! It's really cool. To get to it, go to ps116.org and go to Kathleen's Favorite Fun Websites. Then click on  "Spell with Flickr!" and type in something. If you don't want to do all that, here's the link:

Student Council

Most kids that are in 3rd grade, 2nd grade ,1st grade, and kindergarten don't know about student council. Student Council is really helpful to the school, and they work hard to try to fix genaral problems. So if you would like to have the student council discuss something, tell your teacher and they can contact us!!! Oh, and sorry younger grades, 4th and 5th graders are only allowed to do it. :(. But, at least you have something to look forward to!!!

116 has an OUT OF THIS WORLD online shop. They even have a new section with books that your teacher reccomends on Amazon. On the Cafe Press part, they have 116 hoodies, stuffed animals, stickers, back backs, tote bags, and even shirts for DOGS!! :-) The coolest thing about these shops are that a lot of the proceeds from the things you buy go to 116!!! So encourage your parents to go holiday shopping at the 116 school shop all you 116-ers!!! Happy Shopping!!!

Thanksgiving

Hi peoples! It's 2 days after Thanksgiving, and I went to my cousins house.We had such a scrumdiddilyumptious meal, as I'm sure most everyone had. But while we're eating, we forget the true meaning of why Thanksgiving is. I know why we celebrate it, but I would like to hear your ideas about it. tests and surveys (the surveys are for you)

Test. Us fifth graders are un-lucky! we have a test this week!!!! Most people have their tests for ELA in january & math in march. But , WE have social studies test in NOVEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's ok beacause we don't havw to have a test in feburary. I want all you 3rd and 4th graders to tell your opinion ( fifth graders too) Oh yeah do you think we should have a state ice cream flavor?

Fraunces Tavern

my class went to Fraunces tavern on the 22nd of Oct., and it was so cool! We saw a bunch of paintings and saw  A PIECE OF GEORGE WASHINGTON'S HAIR! It was very cool. We also got to hold old artifacts and saw the actual room where Washington held his farewell feast with his soldiers! Yay!

Hi peoples. So many people have finished their 1st article and are starting their second! Abby and I are writing one on recycling together! We're going to have haikus(a kind of japanese poetry), a word search, a crossword puzzle, and maybe a find-the-difference thingy where there's two pictures and you ned to find the differences.

It will rock like mad so you better read it........OR ELSE!!!

The Kindergartener's in K-217 do this awesome thing called mystery reader. Someone ( they Kids don't know who it is) reads to them and it is totally awesome. I'm doing it because my brother is in that class
